Mesclun

Mesclun simply means 'mixture'--but for the gardener, it means a mixture of salad greens meant to be sown frequently, cut young and often, and enjoyed as one of the garden's greatest treats. Our mesclun is a mixture of spicy cresson alenois (a French variety of garden cress) and a wide range of different cutting lettuces, chicories and curly endives. Sow a small amount every week or two from early spring through fall in rich soil for a succession of harvests. Water abundantly for tender crops and fast growth. Harvest by cutting at ground level with a sharp knife. Mesclun? I can't live without it.
