Arugula is
roquette in French, who consume by the tons. While the garden form has large leaves on plants that run quickly to seed in hot weather, the wild form (
Diplotaxis ericoides) has exactly the same flavor and stays in rosette form much longer. Its leaves are smaller but more refined in flavor. Seeds are slower to germinate and the plant develops at a more leisurely pace than garden arugula. Roquette, if you aren't familiar with it, has a spicy, smoky flavor that quickly becomes addictive. This is one of the best cool-weather crops.
Our French heirloom seed is produced organically by a small seed farm in central France. Its production process is monitored by France's rigorous Ecocert program which is a standard throughout the European community. The seed ships with both an Ecocert certificate and a phytosanitary certificate. Photo courtesy of Patrick Marquet.
