Of course, large quaking grass
(Briza maxima) isn't a wildflower, but it's so ornamental, it might as well be. Besides, it makes the perfect companion to our wild flowers for full sun. In spite of its common name, it's not very large--around 2 feet maximum--and it is very fine-textured. I think it's better called by its French common name of
amourette. It has beautiful flat nodding inflorescences which change from tender green to burnished gold as the grass dries. Lovely in arrangements fresh and dried.
