Covering its 3-foot frame with silky pink blossoms from late June until frost, hollyhock mallow (
Malva alcea) is one of the bloomingest plants you can grow. It brightens meadows throughout France, and even grows in waste spaces and roadsides. A perennial, it is sometimes shortlived because it has a tendency to bloom itself to death. Not a problem, as it self-sows nicely.
Plant the seed in spring through early fall in average to rich garden soil. Hardy at least to Zone 5.
I've searched for a year to find the right source of French native wildflower seeds to offer you. Here they are! Certified organically grown, these seeds are produced on a family flower farm in the
Massif Central. One hundred percent of the process is artisanal, right down to the seed packets which are decorated with drawings of the content plants by the owner.
