I smelled the sweet scent of lady's bedstraw (
Galium verum) before I spotted it. Native to sandy banks and dry berms throughout northern France, this delightful wildflower is a gentle groundcover, blooming with spikes of small, starry, chartreuse yellow blossoms from May-July. The flowers give off an intense honey scent, and as fragile as they look, make an exquisite and long-lasting cutflower. Very attractive to beneficial insects.
Plant the seeds of this 2-foot perennial in light, well-drained soil in full sun from spring through early fall. Wonderful in the border as it weaves through other plants. Also a success in the meadow garden.
I've searched for a year to find the right source of French native wildflower seeds to offer you. Here they are! Certified organically grown, these seeds are produced on a family flower farm in the
Massif Central. One hundred percent of the process is artisanal, right down to the seed packets which are decorated with drawings of the content plants by the owner.
