Also known as sea poppy, because it is so often found on ocean-facing cliffs, this dryland hardy annual (Glaucium flavum
) is an extraordinarily beautiful plant. The foliage is gray and succulent (thick) and the blossoms are a clear light yellow with a tissue paper texture. They are followed by highly ornamental seedpods which are great in dried arrangements.
Plant yellow horned poppy in well-drained, light-textured soil where it is to grow. It transplants poorly. Sow in spring through early summer or in fall. Grows about a foot tall. Great xeriscape plant.
I've searched for a year to find the right source of French native wildflower seeds to offer you. Here they are! Certified organically grown, these seeds are produced on a family flower farm in the Massif Central
. One hundred percent of the process is artisanal, right down to the seed packets which are decorated with drawings of the content plants by the owner.
