Average to wet soils--Wild pennyroyal

Pennyroyal (Mentha pulegium), a fragrant member of the mint family, is native to moist meadows and streamsides throughout France. It is one of the showiest mints, with low (1') spikes of densely packed lavender to violet blossoms that attract butterflies and honeybees. The entire plant is fragrant.

This perennial is hardy to at least Zone 5 and likes a moist to wet site in full sun to light shade. It will, however, tolerate soil of average moisture. Plant it from spring through fall. Makes an excellent modestly spreading groundcover. Caution: pennyroyal is an abortifacient; never drink pennyroyal tea when pregnant. I avoid ingesting it in any form, although it is often referred to as a medicinal herb.

I've searched for a year to find the right source of French native wildflower seeds to offer you. Here they are! Certified organically grown, these seeds are produced on a family flower farm in the Massif Central. One hundred percent of the process is artisanal, right down to the seed packets which are decorated with drawings of the content plants by the owner.
