Wood avens (Geum urbanum
), or herb bennet, as it is sometimes called, is a French wildflower that has been used as a medicinal herb since time immemorial. Growing only 1 to 2 feet high, it has small yellow flowers in modest clusters. The root is thick and clove-scented, and is the part of the plant used medicinally.
This tough, hardy perennial prefers a rich, well-drained soil in part shade. Plant anytime from spring through early fall.
