Bring the brilliant color of a French meadow into your own backyard with wild larkspur (
Consolida regalis). Unlike cultivated strains, which bear tall spikes tightly packed with flowers, this wild version is airy and branched, with delicate clusters of brilliant royal blue blossoms on every branch. The effect is almost that of a royal blue baby's breath. And because the flowers are single and spurred, they are irresistable to hummingbirds.
Wild larkspur makes an absolutely spectacular cutflower and bouquet filler. Its brilliant blue flowers combine fantastically with wild red poppies or just about any other flower you can think of. And because of its tall stature (around 3 feet) and billowy structure, you can cut big branches and still have lots left on the plant. Needs full sun and a well-drained soil. Plant in spring through early summer or in fall for early flowering next year.
I've searched for a year to find the right source of French native wildflower seeds to offer you. Here they are! Certified organically grown, these seeds are produced on a family flower farm in the
Massif Central. One hundred percent of the process is artisanal, right down to the seed packets which are decorated with drawings of the content plants by the owner.
