Bring the sunny beauty of the French countryside into your garden with this carefree corn marigold (Chrysanthemum segetum
). This generous-blooming plant is an ancient "weed" of cultivated fields and as such is a perfect companion to wild red poppies and blue bachelor's buttons. Blooming for months with branched stems of golden yellow daisy-form flowers, this easy annual is tolerant of a wild range of conditions as long as it has sun. It does not, however, appreciate extremely alkaline soil.
Corn marigold makes a wonderful and long-lasting cutflower, and is attractive to butterflies.
I've searched for a year to find the right source of French native wildflower seeds to offer you. Here they are! Certified organically grown, these seeds are produced on a flower farm in the Massif Central
by a family group. One hundred percent of the process is artisanal, right down to the seed packets which are decorated with drawings of the content plants by the owner.
