Bladder campion refers to the inflated base of the white blossoms of
Silene vulgaris, which children like to pop between their fingers.
A common wildflower throughout the French countryside, this campion blooms from June-July. Best of all, once the blossoms have faded, their inflated calyces take on rosy hues and make stunning dried bouquets. One of our favorite dried flowers. In addition, the leafy spring shoots are a traditional addition to wild salads and soup greens throughout the Mediterranean. Prefers well-drained soils in full sun to light shade.
