Hand-made by a family pottery in the center of France which is deeply rooted in tradition, this ingenious salt shaker was designed by the owner of the atelier. Placed on your table, it will be an instant conversation piece as your guests try to figure out what it is. Click on the numbers underneath the main photo to see the whole story. The shaker is made to be used with traditional French sea salt--fleurs de sel
, but any coarse salt will do. Fill the shaker through the hole on the bottom. When you invert it on its saucer, the cone on the interior prevents the salt from falling out unless it is shaken. This clever shaker is a great alternative to the finger bowl that is the only other way to serve this superior salt.
While the forms of this pottery are absolutely traditional--perfected for the inherent gracefulness of utility for generations--the colors are richly contemporary. The owner of this atelier often experiments for months or even years on the perfection of a particular color glaze. The fleurs de sel
shaker is available in marbled turquoise and marbled gray, and is dishwasher-, oven-, and microwave-proof. An heirloom in the making.
