When we first saw the works of master
vanneur or basketmaker Guy, we knew we had found a line of baskets worthy of offering on this site. Guy has been practicing his art all his life, with the help of his wife, and his nephew apprentice. He is one of France's foremost scholars and authorities on French basketry. Guy and his wife grow and harvest all the varieties of willow they use in their baskets. Guy uses the rich bark colors of the different willow species to weave into his baskets their subtle designs of rich chestnut brown, deep cordovan red, and mellow olive green. This duck nesting basket is made to precisely accommodate the body of a mother duck and make her feel secure and is truly a museum-quality piece of folk art. It looks stunning just hanging on your wall all by itself. But if you place it with the opening facing up, or lay it on a piece of furniture, you can fill it with a sheaf of branches or grasses, or even let fruit tumble from it cornucopia-style. Let it embrace your seasonal gatherings and feast your eyes on it.
