French baskets

This might be my favorite basket. Called a charmotte à cérises in French, it is a purely traditional French basket designed to be worn while harvesting cherries. Its form, with an opening narrower than its plump 'belly', prevents the contents from spilling out should you bend over. A long cotton web strap can either be slung around your neck or worn across the chest, keeping your hands free for picking cherries...or pole beans, peas, or whatever else your garden has to offer.
